….but more interesting (at least to us) were the remnants of the old town itself. Once a bustling town of 2,616 residents in 1860, Rocky Springs was damaged by the Civil War, devastated by an outbreak of yellow fever, and finally destroyed by an infestation of boll weevils in its cotton fields. All that remains is this old, rusted safe that was probably once inside the town's drugstore and apparently too securely anchored to be moved when the town was abandoned in 1930.
