As we neared the state capital of Jackson, we couldn't pass up another Civil War battlefield – one that proved to be pivotal (literally) in U.S. Grant's Vicksburg Campaign. It was at this bridge along Fourteenmile Creek outside of Raymond, MS, that Confederate General John Gregg encountered what he believed to be a small brigade of Union troops, supported by only a half dozen cannons.
