In 1557 Sayri Tupac, the youthful heir to the Inca throne, decided to emerge from his jungle hideout and accept Spanish rule.  This adobe hacienda was built for him, but two years later he was poisoned.  Although the Incas believed the Spaniards had assassinated their ruler, it is more likely that the assassin was the former owner of the land that had been seized for the Inca's residence.
