1000places > MONTEVERDE, COSTA RICA - We saw a few birds through the guide's spotting scope - but most of the wildlife had better sense than to sit out in the rain posing for us. We did see a lot of rainforest flora, however, including this heliconia.

Unlike a rainforest, there is sunshine in a cloud forest; just every few minutes, a garua blows through.
1000places > Costa Rica means "rich coast" in Spanish. We picked it as the destination for our retirement vacation - the first time in more than 25 years that we could go somewhere for longer than two weeks. We found an amazing country where education, health care, and now environmental preservation are clearly national priorities. And we found Costa Ricans - Ticos are their common name - to be genuinely friendly with touristas.
