1000places > COSTA RICA - Virtually all the logistics of our trip - 7 hotel reservations and 8 bus "transfers" - were made individually over the Internet. Our route carried us through the Central Valley and down the Pacific coast.
1000places > MONTEVERDE, COSTA RICA - We saw a few birds through the guide's spotting scope - but most of the wildlife had better sense than to sit out in the rain posing for us. We did see a lot of rainforest flora, however, including this heliconia.
1000places > MONTEVERDE, COSTA RICA - Now we know these are hummingbirds (the feeder is a good clue).
1000places > ON THE ROAD TO VOLCAN POAS, COSTA RICA - When our bus stopped at a roadside restaurant (and banos), an elderly Tico "coincidentially" wandered up the road with his grandson in an oxcart. It was a "Kodak moment," and as we left, the old man parked the ox, cart, and grandson under a nearby tree and waited for the next tourist bus.
1000places > MONTEVERDE, COSTA RICA - Among the flora and fauna we saw on our hike through the cloud forest was this bird (hummingbird?). We really have to get better in identifying our plants and animals.
1000places > FINCA ROSA BLANCA, HEREDIA, COSTA RICA - Each guestroom is uniquely decorate - and appropriately named. Our's was Las Mascaras, the "mask room." These were some of the masks displayed on the wall.
1000places > FINCA ROSA BLANCA, HEREDIA, COSTA RICA - More of the masks that gave our guestroom its name.
1000places > FINCA ROSA BLANCA, HEREDIA, COSTA RICA -The hotel's mahogany dining room table was polished so that it caught the different hues of the sunlight pouring through the windows overlooking the countryside.
1000places > FINCA ROSA BLANCA, HEREDIA, COSTA RICA - Our visit to Finca Rosa Blanca and to Costa Rica came to an end much too quickly. Eventually we knew we would have to return to a lifestyle in which there would not be fresh flowers in our room each day and our bananas would not be cut into precise patterns when our breakfasts were served each morning. But we left with great memories of warm people and beautiful flowers. And with the knowledge that it is hard to visit new places until you have returned from the old ones.
