1000places > PISA - Architecturally, the cathedral is considered to be unsurpassed in its combination of dark-grey marble and white stone. But what struck Jeanne's eye was that sometime during its restoration, its builders were obviously somewhat lax in their placement of fallen stone blocks.

1000places > VILLAHERMOSA, MEXICO - Senor de Tabasco Cathedral is the main catholic temple of Villahermosa, located in the same place where the Senor de Esquipulas church - constructed in 1776 - was destroyed during the anti-clerical campaign unleashed by the governor Tomás Garrido Canabal between the years of 1928 and 1934. 1000places > GRECIA, COSTA RICA - We stopped by the small town of Grecia, once voted "the cleanest little town in Latin America" (although again, we couldn't determine by whom.) 1000places > GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA - Surrounding the Metropolitan Cathedral are stone pillars that provide a reminder of the brutal days of the country's civil war. Inscribed on the pillars are the names of more than 200,000 innocent civilians - most Maya - who were killed during the conflict. Many people believe, however, that the death count is too low; most estimates place the death toll at more than one million.
