1000places > Our Southern Road Trip - Having endured the cold bite of the 2006/07 winter for too long, we decided that a trip to "the South" was in order. And it doesn't get more inescapably south than Savannah, Georgia....

1000places > ...where stately old brick and clapboard mansions conjure images of the "Old South" and "old money".

1000places > Springtime in Savannah - On Tuesday, March 13, we pulled into Savannah. The temperature would venture into the 80s later in the day - warm even for the South in mid March. The azaleas were in full splendor.

1000places > Second only to the ubiquitous Spanish moss, the azalea must be a signature flora of Savannah. It was everywhere - lining the streets of the city's historic district....

1000places > ...growing profusely among the stone markers of graveyards...

1000places > The brilliant blossoms were a great way to get a jump on spring - especially given that weather forecasts back in the mid-Atlantic region were predicting the dreaded "wintry mix."
