1000places > LIMA, PERU - Our tour leader was Alvaro de Olave ("just call me 'Al'"). His first task was to lead us to lunch. Note that there are 12 women in our group (and two men).
1000places > LIMA, PERU - Lima has several urban parks but none is quite like the Parque del Amor, literally "Love Park." Its centerpiece is this sculpture, apparently an imitation of the Parque Guell in Barcelona.
1000places > LIMA, PERU - We entered Lima during the months when the garua - an unrelenting coastal mist - hangs over the city. Lasting as long as eight months, the mist gives the city a constant dreamlike state.

1000places > LIMA, PERU - Our first exposure to ancient Peruvian cultures came at the Museo Arqueologico Rafael Larco Herrera. Founded in 1926, it houses the largest private collection of pre-Columbian art in the world.
1000places > LIMA, PERU - One of the exhibits in the Museo Arqueologico Rafael Larco Herrera. The large ear ornaments were typical of the native cultures - the Spanish called the Incas "orejones" which meant "big ears."
1000places > LIMA, PERU - Another display of the elaborate ear and nose ornaments worn by native Peruvian cultures at the time of the Spanish conquest. The exhibit is at the Museo Arqueologico Rafael Larco Herrera
